For Glyn’s Mixed Music Bag — Week 24 — I have chosen Lily Meola. Lily was a semifinalist on the 17th season of America’s Got Talent (2022); but, I was introduced to her by my husband, who sent me her single “Daydream” — a song she wrote for her mother, and performed on AGT — as an inspirational gift.
Lily was born and raised in Hawaii, on the island of Maui. She started performing there — at local bars and cafes — when she was eleven-years-old. Her passion for music began by listening to the artists her mother loved: Carole King, The Eagles, Cat Stevens, Joni Mitchell and Ella Fitzgerald. These artists continue to inspire the songs that Meola writes and records.
Lily released her first EP, Daydream, in 2022; and, she is currently writing and recording tracks for a new album. Meola has also recently toured as an opening act for Imagine Dragons and Steven Sanchez.
I have chosen “Over the Moon” for its lyrics (which anyone who has ever experienced heartbreak — or the fading of passion in a long-term relationship — can relate to), its bluesy instrumentals, and sharp but soulful vocals — all signature elements of Meola’s music. You can explore more of Lily’s catalogue by visiting her YouTube channel or by downloading her tracks on your favorite streaming service.
